🗣️ Simple Explanation

This section makes it illegal to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If your blood alcohol level is above the limit (30mg per 100ml), or if you're too high to control the vehicle, you're breaking the law. The punishment depends on whether it's your first or a repeat offense.

⚖️ Punishment

First offense: Imprisonment up to 6 months or a fine up to ₹2,000 or both. Second or subsequent offense (within 3 years): Imprisonment up to 2 years or a fine up to ₹3,000 or both.

💡 Real Life Example

A is caught driving with a blood alcohol level of 40mg/100ml. This is a violation of Section 185. B is caught driving under the influence of drugs, unable to maintain lane discipline.
